I heard from friends that the winds had been whipping near Stovepipe Wells. I was already on my way, but a stop in Vegas to grab supplies and goggles put me a bit behind schedule. I had every intention of braving the wind and lashing sand for a chance to photograph on the dunes that night.
As I began my descent into the valley, the sun was already setting and my original photo plans seemed a bit of a stretch. A tinge of disappointment (and FOMO) crept in as I raced down Daylight Pass...that is, until I noticed the rise of sand and dust glowing before me. I pulled off to the side of the road and embraced my vantage point. My lens was just long enough to isolate the mountain ridges in the distance. I wasn't missing out on anything after all.
