I've always enjoyed noticing the details and smaller scenes in nature, but as a hiker I'd take quick note of it and scoot on by, intent on getting from point A to point B. Sure, I'd stop to smell the flowers (and identify the flowers, and admire the flowers, and I just love flowers), but the mission was always to reach the end.
One of the things I appreciate most about photography is that it forces me to slow down. I love the slow, meditative practice of losing myself in details and scenes.
Slowing down and breathing in my surroundings has deepened my love for hiking. I may not make it to the end of the trail as much anymore, but I've become better acquainted with the landscape. And that's my intention now.
